After thousands and thousands of lines of code custom made for the web, countless hours of video shooting and editing, along with thousands of orders printed, orders shipped, it would be easy to forget Bitstorm Connect is only one year old.
On January 1, 2017 Bitstorm Web joined the team at Think Patented and officially formed Bitstorm Connect. It was a year of rebranding, a year of new relationships, re-affirming previous ones, and providing as many marketing services worldwide, as we possibly could. We hit the ground running and as we close the doors on 2017, it’s time to hit pause and reflect on some of our accomplishments over the last year.
With any new business, there’s always an amount of uncertainty, particularly when addressing new business opportunities and new clients.
There have been a number of challenges over the course of the last year but since we launched Bitstorm Connect, we’ve developed more web sites, more videos, more email and Connect360 automated marketing campaigns, and more web-to-print portals than we have ever done previously. I guess you could say we are creating the “perfect storm” here at Bitstorm (pun intended).
Focus on Cyber Security
With good reason, one of the biggest questions that was commonly asked by clients in 2017 was in regards to security. Whether that be geo-blocking specific areas from countries known to harbor botnets that could attack our servers, implementing HTTPS through issuing SSL Certificates to ensure a secure connect between your users and website, we at Bitstorm have always taken Cyber Security seriously and 2017 was no exception.
Over the past year, we significantly increased our adoption of Web Application Firewalls to ensure regular update and provide real-time notifications and were able to write custom code that decreased scans of malware from an hour down to just 2-3 minutes, enabling us to increase the frequency of scans permitted.
Medallion Refinish Systems
While the Medallion flagship website was a project we had begun in the later part of the year, it was actually one of four different projects that we worked with them on over the course of the year.
It’s not uncommon for us to work with a client on multiple projects or divisions of a single company over the course of a relationship with a client, but to openly develop and release four separate product websites in a single year was a unique challenge to everyone involved and underscores the extensive capabilities and capacity we have and hope to continue providing to our clients in 2018 moving forward.
Kate’s Plate was an ambitious and unique undertaking. Kate’s Plate serves the Ohio area, delivering local ingredient meal kits. Working with the Kate’s Plate owner, we helped create a unique experience for its customers, using the full capabilities of WordPress and Woocommerce.
If you’ve ever used Woocommerce, however, you will not recognize it here. Woocommerce is a free-to-use, open source plugin for WordPress, maintained by the Automatic, which is the organization that also runs and maintains WordPress. Out-of-the-box, it couldn’t deliver the experience the owner at Kate’s Plate wanted, so we stripped out what was unneeded and completely revamped the solution to suit the checkout process our client wanted. This included creating a custom-built payment processor, so payments could be deferred until a given customer’s delivery week, among many other tweaks and updates.
And that’s just the user experience! We also were able to provide a wide array of additional analytics previously unavailable to the client. Not only that, but we were also able to automate a number of their workflows to cut down on manual, repetitive tasks that needed to be done every week, as well.
From start to finish, we did our best to think of every user at every step in the process and this approach is at the center of the services we provide.

Capability Expansion: Video
Bitstorm has always been a multimedia company but over the years, we had been doing less and less video work, focusing instead on web site development.
In 2017, that changed. In part due to the rise of video marketing and with our renewed resources, we were able to get back to our roots and have been doing video shoots all year, highlighting clients’ technology. Over the year, we’ve had the pleasure of working with many companies to create video work for internal use, trade shows and promotions. In 2018, we aim to shoot even higher in terms of creativity and innovative use of video and animation.

If our video work demonstrates the variety of services we offer, our web development projects help underscore the quantity and quality we deliver.
Over the last year, we’ve been lucky enough to add numerous new, full-time members to our team, and have hired a small army of capable interns to help meet the demand of our increased business. We firmly believe in on-the-job training and offer formal internship and apprenticeship programs throughout Bitstorm Connect and Think Patented as a whole.
We’re full steam ahead for 2018 and by all indications, we’re setting out to out do ourselves once again in the new year. We hope you join us!
