Social Media Blog

Social media platforms aren’t just for scrolling through your latest family reunion pictures on Facebook or watching YouTube videos on how to train cats anymore. Well, they still are, but nowadays social media has another purpose. The business world has really taken a hold of social media to connect with customers and show off products or services to anyone around the world.

It’s silly that some businesses do not take advantage of creating pages on Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube (to name a few), since many sites are free to create a profile and they are easy to learn quickly. Companies that have a social media presence can drive targeted traffic with ease and help boost their website’s SEO by just being active on different platforms and putting out content.

People want to talk to other people because it is authentic and feels honest. If someone is unhappy with a product they purchased and they post about it on Facebook for the world to see, that business can reach out to that customer directly to try and resolve the problem (because who likes calling an 800-number listed in the fine print and being on hold for 17 minutes?). This also works with satisfied customers as well because if people are happy with a product, they want to share it with their friends and family. Word of mouth (or social media posts) are a great way to gain more brand awareness and attention, which can lead to brand loyalty.

According to BrandWatch, “91% of retail brands use 2 or more social media channels, internet users have an average of 5.54 social media accounts and social media users have risen by 176 million in the last year.” For a business to stay relevant among consumers and a strong contender amongst competition, social media can play a huge role. The world is becoming a virtual mobile marketplace due to the rise of smartphones and how convenient it is to buy something with the touch of a button or your fingerprint. Social media marketing also draws people in because it is fun! Viral videos or sassy twitter comments make people laugh and that sticks with them. Take the Charmin mobile toilet truck or Wendy’s fire tweets that were dished out last year. Social media can be played in favor of a brand and businesses are learning to capture that and turn it into internet success.

Having trouble knowing what your customers want? Ask them! Social media makes it easy for your audience to communicate directly with you making it a great communication and selling tool. Jump in on a hashtag or offer a promotion for them to fill out a survey online. Getting people involved again brings more awareness and activity to your social media pages and website. Keeping an active profile is also important to stay up to date with posting content and maintaining interest among customers.
